How to Setup TP Link Smart Plug?
Control your TP Link smart devices locally and remotely using the Kasa app. Use the instructions provided ahead to complete your TP Link smart plug setup:
1st Step: Download & Install Kasa App
Install the Kasa app if not yet installed. Head to the App Store or the Play Store on your smart phone and download the app. Soon the app will be installed.
2nd Step: Log in to the App
Get your phone connected to your router’s network. The smart plug requires a 2.4 GHz WiFi network to operate. So, make sure that you are joining a 2.4 GHz network from your router.
3rd Step: Log into the Kasa App
By now the app would have been installed on your phone. Tap on its icon to run it. Use the TP Link cloud account details and log in to the app. In case you don’t have a TP-Link cloud account then you need to create it right now. To create the account, tap on Create Account and enter your email address and password. Select your current location and tap Create Account.
After the email verification, use the login details to log into the Kasa app.
If you are an iOS user, then you need to give Local Network connection permission to use the app.
4th Step: Add Smart Plug to App
Tap on + and then on Add a Device. Select Smart Plug and choose the smart plug model number that you’re setting up.
5th Step: Plug in TP Link Smart Plug
As per the instructions, plug in your TP Link smart plug into a well working power outlet. See that the place is within the range of the WiFi router so that it is easy for you to complete the TP Link smart plug setup. The WiFi light on the plug should blink orange and green. Reset TP Link smart plug in case the LED does not blink in these colors. Repeat the process and the lights should blink in orange and green. Tap Next.
6th Step: Join Smart Plug’s WiFi Network
You should now join the smart plug’s WiFi on your phone. The app will look for the WiFi network and connect. In case the WiFi does not show up or you have an iOS device then move to the phone’s WiFi settings and manually join your smart plug’s WiFi. The SSID should be like this: TP-LINK_SmartPlug_XXXX.
If you see a prompt appearing saying the WiFi network is unsecured/unprotected, then select Connect anyway. You will see the No Internet Connection prompt. Leave it this way and move further.
7th Step: Connect Smart Plug to Router’s WiFi
Get back to the Kasa App now and connect your TP-Link smart plug to the router’s WiFi by selecting its SSID from the list of available networks.
8th Step: Customize Smart Plug Settings
The network connection is successfully established. You can now customize your smart plug settings according to your needs. Assign it a name first. You can also customize its icon as per your preference by choosing it from the list. You can now configure various settings like Schedule/Timer/Away.
